ok so here we go here is a tutorial to change the start button text on windows xp
the tools you will need for this are

*ResHacker (search it through google)

ok so here we go first we go and open up reshacker
so now that weve done that we will
click "file > open" and navigate to "C:/windows/explorer.exe"
now on the list on the side (the one with all the folders...) click "string table > 37 > 1033"
now youll see that some shit has apeared in the window on the rightthat will look sumthing like this

Code:

STRINGTABLE LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_US { 578, "start" 579, "There was an internal error and one of the windows you were using has been closed." 580, "Restrictions" 581, "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." 590, "Hiding your inactive notification icons..." 591, "To see the hidden icons, click this button." }

ok do you see start? that is one of the two words we are going to modify
so change it to whatever you want there is no limit on how long! but be reasonable or your whole taskbar will be the start button =/
so i changed mine to "[CSD]Pulse" now that youve done that click the "Compile Script Button" up the top
next clcik 38 on the list on the side (the one with all the folders....) then click 1033 in there aswell
kool now youll see sumthing like this

Code:

STRINGTABLE LANGUAGE LANG_ENGLISH, SUBLANG_ENGLISH_US { 593, "Notification Area" 594, "Running Applications" 595, "Start" 603, "The application is either too busy or unable to respond to your request to close." 604, "Forcing it to close may cause that application to lose data. Do you want to force it to close?" }

again we are going to change the text that says "Start" you MUST change it to the word you changed the last start to
ok so i changed that one to "[CSD]Pulse" aswell. ok click the "compile script button again" now we want to save it but theres 2 problems we
need to face. you cant save a program that is running, and windows has a feature that will back up some files if they get modified/damaged ect
so we will solve the second one first eh =) click on your "start button > Run" then in that box that pops up type in "%systemroot%\system32\Restore"
without the quotes. a folder should pop up ,
ok now look for a file inthat folder called "Filelist.xml" its ok if you dont see it we can fix that =). so if you dont see it go to
"Controll panel > Classic View > Folder Options" now in the dialog box that opens UNcheck "hide operating system files" ,uncheck
"hide extensions for unknown file types", now CHECK Show hiden files and folders" then click the "ok" button , now if you look in the folder we opened
before we should see "Filelist.xml" if you dont then your o/s is not compatible. right click on "filelist.xml" and open it with a text editor (such as wordpad)
you look at it and you think what the fuck is this? well nvm that, look for this line of code "%windir%]system.ini" above that make a new line and add this
"<REC>%sytemroot%\explorer.exe</REC>" Without the quotes
now click "save"(not save as) next click "start > Run" and in the dialog box that pops up type this in "%systemroot%\system32\dllcache" without the quotes.
now in this folder fnd explorer.exe this is windows back up copy so when we hack/change our start button text windows will replace the one we hacked with this one
now we cant have that can we. so delete it. now thats that problem solved =) now the problem with the fact that we cant save/replace to a running application
is really easy to fix. hit "ctrl+alt+del" on your keyboard click "processes" and navigate to the line in the listbox that contains "Explorer.exe" make sure itrs highlighted
then click "End Process" then say yes if it says are you sure ou want to end blah blah blah. now omg wtf has happned? its ok dont worry we will fix it in a minute =)
ok go back to reshacker , if you cant see it hold down "alt" on your keyboard and hit tab till it lands on reshacker. =) now in reshacker click "save" then click
"save as" and navigate to "c:/windows/explorer.exe-original" and save it there aswell =)
then close reshacker. now your done and you want to see your kool new start bar ay, so hit "ctrl-alt-del" on ur keyboard again
click the "new task" button and in the box that appears type "explorer.exe" and woo everything has reapeared and you have hacked your start button text,

Congratulations... you must feel so pleased you hacked a start button... no seriously =/ stupid idiot
